Is White Tea Suitable for Drinking in Winter?

Tea News · Mar 10, 2026

Everyone thinks that spring is for drinking flower tea, and winter is for drinking black tea. So, is white tea suitable for drinking in winter? Is it good to drink white tea in winter?

In winter, the climate is dry, and if you eat greasy or spicy food, people are prone to internal heat.

At the Fujian Pavilion, tea master Lu Caifeng recommended Fuding white tea, saying it has effects such as clearing heat, reducing internal fire, calming the mind, and soothing nerves. It is reported that white tea is a lightly fermented tea, made by selecting buds and leaves rich in pekoe and processing them through a unique method that involves no rubbing or frying.

Compared to other types of tea, white tea has low free radical content and high flavonoid levels. "The 'Three Resistances and Three Reductions' are the main effects of white tea," said Lu Caifeng. "The 'Three Resistances' refer to antioxidant, anti-radiation, and anti-tumor properties, while the 'Three Reductions' refer to lowering blood pressure, blood lipids, and blood sugar." Therefore, white tea is more suitable for people who are prone to internal heat and those who usually smoke or drink alcohol.

The metabolic function of white tea tea trees is specific. Although low temperatures inhibit the synthesis of chlorophyll, they can significantly increase the production of free amino acids. Therefore, the free amino acid content in early spring white tea is generally above 6%, sometimes even reaching 9%. The content in other general green tea products is only 2%-4%. Moreover, white tea has a natural fragrance, a strong cooling property, and effects such as aiding digestion, refreshing the mind, dispelling dampness and reducing heat, and "lowering lung fire".
