
Green Tea
Effects: Refreshes the mind, clears heat, relieves summer heat, aids digestion, resolves phlegm, reduces greasiness, promotes weight loss, calms the mind, detoxifies and sobers from alcohol, promotes salivation and quenches thirst, reduces internal heat, improves vision, treats dysentery, and removes dampness, among other pharmacological effects.
Taboos: Avoid drinking on an empty stomach. Patients with liver disease should avoid it, as the caffeine in green tea is metabolized by the liver; excessive consumption may affect and damage liver function. Those with a cold stomach should not drink it to avoid gastrointestinal discomfort.
Black Tea
Effects: Aids gastrointestinal digestion, promotes appetite, diuretic, reduces edema, strengthens heart function; also assists in blood sugar regulation and has stomach-nourishing properties.
Taboos: Black tea is warm in nature and can warm the stomach, so it is not suitable for those with stomach heat; patients with stones or those taking medication should also avoid it.
Pu-erh Tea
Effects: Lowers blood lipids, aids weight loss, inhibits bacteria and aids digestion, warms the stomach, promotes salivation, quenches thirst, detoxifies and sobers from alcohol, among other benefits.
Taboos: Patients with low blood pressure or low blood sugar, iron-deficiency anemia, neurasthenia, active gastric ulcers, or those with a cold constitution should not consume it excessively; those with stomach problems should avoid raw Pu-erh but can drink ripe Pu-erh to nourish the stomach.
Lycium Tea (Goji Berry Tea)
Effects: Benefits liver and kidney yin deficiency, dizziness, blurred vision, nocturnal emissions, impotence, dull complexion, dry hair, sore waist and knees, yin-deficient cough, and thirst in the elderly.
Taboos: Those with a cold, fever, inflammation, or diarrhea, as well as hypertensive patients, should avoid it; green tea and goji berries should not be brewed together, as the high tannin content in green tea can adsorb trace elements in goji berries, forming substances difficult for the body to absorb.
Lemon Tea
Effects: Lemon is rich in vitamin C, aiding detoxification, cleansing the intestines, lowering cholesterol, preventing hypertension, kidney stones, and alleviating cold symptoms.
Taboos: Lemon tea is cooling; those who are畏寒(fear cold), have gastric ulcers, or excessive gastric acid should avoid it; women during menstruation should最好不喝(best not drink). Excessive citric acid can harm the liver.
Tieguanyin Tea
Effects: In addition to the general health benefits of tea, it has anti-aging, anti-atherosclerosis, diabetes prevention, weight loss and body shaping, caries prevention, heat reduction and fire reduction, and counteracting smoke and alcohol effects.
Taboos: Patients with heart disease or hypertension should avoid it to prevent inducing or aggravating conditions; avoid on an empty stomach; those with stomach problems should drink less, as caffeine stimulates gastric acid and may cause discomfort; not suitable during menstruation or pregnancy, as tannin affects iron absorption.
Barley Tea
Effects: Detoxifies, strengthens the spleen and aids weight loss, clears heat and relieves summer heat, removes fishy and greasy tastes, aids digestion, moisturizes skin, and darkens hair.
Taboos: Patients with habitual constipation, liver or kidney disease, hypertension, or heart disease should avoid it; also not suitable on an empty stomach. As barley tea reduces milk supply, breastfeeding women should not drink it.
Chrysanthemum Tea
Effects: Sweet and slightly cold in nature, it disperses wind heat, calms the liver, and improves vision.
Taboos: Chrysanthemum is cooling; those with spleen deficiency, stomach cold, or prone to diarrhea should avoid it; those with low blood pressure should drink less; patients with cold-type感冒(cold) should avoid it, as it may worsen the condition.
Buckwheat Tea
Effects: Softens blood vessels, improves microcirculation, clears heat and detoxifies, promotes blood circulation and removes blood stasis, draws out toxins and promotes tissue regeneration, lowers blood sugar, urine sugar, and blood lipids, boosts energy, and enhances peripheral insulin action.
Taboos: Buckwheat is偏寒性(slightly cold in nature), so those with stomach cold should consume less. However, buckwheat can assist in treating gastritis, gastric ulcers, and excessive gastric acid.
