Drinking Pu-erh tea according to body constitution
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that human body constitutions can be categorized as燥热 (dry-heat) or虚寒 (deficiency-cold), while Pu-erh tea, through different processing techniques, can also have cool or warm properties. Choosing Pu-erh tea should consider one's constitution: those with a燥热 constitution should drink cool-natured Pu-erh (raw tea), while those with a虚寒 constitution are better suited to warm-natured Pu-erh (ripe tea).
This is because raw Pu-erh tea is non-fermented, has higher tea polyphenol content, and maintains its original tea properties, making it more stimulating; ripe Pu-erh tea is post-fermented, where tea polyphenol content is reduced through the "ripening" process, resulting in weaker stimulation and a more gentle, mild character suitable for all ages and genders.
Especially for people with weak spleen and stomach, drinking ripe Pu-erh tea can help warm the stomach.
