Bad Breath? You Must Drink This Tea

Tea News · Feb 08, 2026

Normally, the body secretes 1 to 1.5 liters of saliva daily. Besides aiding in eating and digestion, saliva acts as a natural cleanser for the mouth. Reduced saliva secretion can easily lead to bad breath. For this reason, people who frequently experience dry mouth should drink more osmanthus tea. It not only promotes saliva production and quenches thirst but also helps prevent bad breath.

Osmanthus, also known as nine-mile fragrance, has a fresh and pleasant scent. "Osmanthus dew," obtained through distillation, is a premium beverage that invigorates the spleen, stimulates appetite, and soothes the liver. It is often used to relieve dry throat, thirst, bad breath, and toothache. Brewing osmanthus tea has similar effects. Since osmanthus is warm and pungent in nature, it is best paired with cooling green tea or oolong tea in spring. Use 3 grams of dried osmanthus flowers with 5 grams of green tea or oolong tea, steep in boiling water for 6 minutes, and then drink.

Additionally, individuals with a weak constitution or those who often suffer from cold stomach can try brewing hawthorn and osmanthus water. Combine 12 grams of osmanthus, 6 grams of hawthorn, and 3 grams of codonopsis root in a small pot with 500 ml of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to the lowest heat and simmer for about 20 minutes. Strain the liquid, add a small amount of rock sugar if desired, let it cool, and drink frequently as a tea.
