Recently, the weather has been cold and dry, making lips very susceptible to 'damage'. What to do about chapped, peeling lips? The suggestion from Ye Zuming, Chief Physician of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department at Tianjin Haihe Hospital, is to drink a cup of 'Double Winter Tea'.
Director Ye Zuming explained that during dry weather, the lack of moisture in the air, coupled with accelerated water loss from the body, can lead to depletion of yin blood and damage to body fluids. On the other hand, in cold seasons, people tend to eat more rich, greasy, spicy, and stimulating foods, which can easily cause heat accumulation in the spleen and stomach, leading to symptoms like insufficient body fluids and dry lips.
To alleviate the above discomfort, it is recommended to brew a cup of 'Double Winter Tea' daily as a routine drink to relieve lip dryness. The specific method is to take 10 grams each of Ophiopogon japonicus (Mai Dong) and Asparagus cochinchinensis (Tian Dong), add a little white sugar if desired, place them in a cup, pour about 300 ml of boiling water, cover, and steep for 10-15 minutes.
Ophiopogon japonicus (Mai Dong) can both nourish the fluids of the lungs, relieving discomforts like dry throat and cough, and supplement stomach fluids. It also helps to clear heart fire and lubricate the intestines, making it a good medicinal herb for both nourishment and clearing. Asparagus cochinchinensis (Tian Dong) has effects similar to Mai Dong, capable of clearing lung heat, reducing fire, nourishing yin, and moistening dryness. Additionally, it can nourish kidney yin and is suitable for conditions like yin deficiency with heat, lack of body fluids, and thirst. When used together, they complement each other's strengths and can be considered a good 'partner' for winter health preservation. 'It should be noted that both herbs are cold in nature. They are not suitable for those with symptoms of spleen-stomach deficiency cold, such as diarrhea, loose stools, white greasy tongue coating, indigestion, or for those currently suffering from wind-cold感冒 and cough,' Director Ye Zuming finally reminded.
