Wuyi Rock Tea – A Dialogue Between Lips and Soul

Tea News · May 02, 2026

Wuyi Rougui, also known as Cassia, is named for its aroma and flavor reminiscent of cinnamon bark. "The jade cassia from Panlong Cliff... is extremely precious." This "jade cassia" refers to Wuyi Rougui. Wuyi Rougui is a highly aromatic variety among rock teas, rich in "rock rhyme" (Yanyun), and stands out as a unique bloom in the world of oolong tea due to its distinctive fragrance and character. Unlike the traditional quality characteristics of Wuyi rock tea, Wuyi Rougui is a variety where the aroma is easy to achieve but the flavor is difficult to master. Therefore, during production, after the first roasting, the tea is sifted to remove dust, cooled, and then re-roasted for 1–2 hours in a process of "slow fire roasting." This is a special procedure unique to Wuyi rock tea, aimed at enhancing the tea's aroma, improving the concentration of the liquor, and increasing its endurance during infusion.

Benefits: Rougui tea has anti-cancer, anti-radiation, anti-aging, anti-mutation, immunity-boosting, cold-dispersing, pain-relieving, fire-supporting Yang, warming spleen and stomach, circulation-promoting, insecticidal, and anti-dysenteric effects. It is also hailed as the "treasure of health." A cup of Rougui tea on a cold winter day can dispel cold and keep you warm, and it aids digestion after a hearty meal. When used in soups, it enhances flavor. The international tea community describes Wuyi Rougui tea as "the nectar of all things and a miraculous medicine." Wuyi tea is warming but not harsh, does not spoil when stored for a long time, has a rich taste that is neither bitter nor astringent, has an aroma surpassing that of orchids, is fragrant and aromatic, refreshes the mind and aids digestion, alleviates alcohol effects, and is gentle on the stomach.
