Many Benefits of Elderly Drinking Tea!

Tea News · Mar 23, 2026

Everyone knows that drinking tea is beneficial, but you might not know that there are also many benefits for the elderly in drinking tea!

1. Tea is good for the elderly brain

Tea contains two substances that are very beneficial to the brain and can effectively prevent Alzheimer's disease. A study of 2031 people aged 70-74 found that those who regularly drank tea had more flexible minds than those who did not.

2. Green tea can help fight Alzheimer's disease

Scientists have discovered that natural components in green tea may ultimately provide a method for treating Alzheimer's disease. Previous research found that a component in green tea—epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)—can destroy the formation of plaques in the brain. The buildup of these plaques leads to the death of brain cells, which may eventually help in the treatment of serious diseases.

3. Tea enhances memory

L-theanine, together with EGCG, is intricately linked to improving memory. A Korean study found that green tea extract and L-theanine can improve the memory of patients experiencing mild cognitive impairment. Research on EGCG in mice shows that EGCG aids memory by increasing the productivity of new brain cell generation.

4. Beneficial for better mental health

Drinking tea is an effective factor in improving overall mental health. A demographic test was conducted on 42,093 Japanese people. This study found a close correlation between drinking green tea and fewer psychological illnesses and disorders. The positive effects of tea were also demonstrated in a study of 1,058 elderly Japanese. In the treatment of schizophrenia, L-theanine also reduced anxiety and other symptoms to some extent.

5. Improves cognition

Tea contains caffeine, which can keep people alert. Additionally, tea contains L-theanine, an amino acid found only in tea that can affect a person's mental state. Many studies have shown that L-theanine is associated with improved cognitive ability.
